BHB Clinical Affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International | Bermuda Hospitals Board

Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) and Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHMI) entered into a two-year clinical affiliation agreement on 19 December 2018. BHB sought a high-quality, renowned teaching hospital as a collaborator to support its mission of delivering safe, high-quality, people-centred, compassionate care, every day.

The agreement is initially focusing on supporting BHB’s clinical education and training programmes, specifically the Continuing Medical Education Programme, which provides BHB clinical staff and local healthcare providers with accredited education.

BHB and JHMI are also working through opportunities around supporting service improvements at BHB, for example, improvements to stroke rehabilitation services. A programme has also been implemented in the Emergency Department, with Johns Hopkins residents coming to BHB as part of their rotation.

The intensive selection process for a clinical affiliate saw six leading US hospitals bidding for the contract. It was announced in August 2018 that Johns Hopkins Medicine International was the successful bidder, and that negotiations would start to finalise a contract.

As required by PATI legislation, this agreement was included in BHB’s gazetted contract listing in January 2019.
