The HAB is the oldest and largest volunteer agency at BHB. They donate over 35,000 hours of service annually, and have contributed millions of dollars in support of the hospitals since their inception in 1953. The most recognisable faces of HAB are the ‘Pink Ladies and Men’ (adult volunteers) and candy stripers (students) you will see around the hospital.

Areas where HAB volunteers make a difference:

  • The Pink Café
  • The Barn
  • The Gift Shop
  • Baby bag delivery
  • Information desk
  • Overseas family help services

If you are interested in volunteering, kindly call the HAB office at (441) 239-1525 to arrange an appointment for an interview. We sure can use your help.

Candy Stripers

Candy Stripers

Candy stripers are HAB student volunteers. Candy striping is a wonderful opportunity to develop character and maturity. Volunteers gain experience through teamwork and are given the chance to take on important responsibilities. Above all, they are learning to make a difference in their community by undertaking rewarding and satisfying work.

Young people enter the programme at the age of 14 and are eligible to participate until the age of 18. We suggest an application be submitted to our office when the young person turns 10 as there is a long waiting list. Interviews are held once a year in the spring. Applicants who are selected for the programme attend an orientation in June.

This is a very popular programme for our youth. You can call the HAB office at 236-1375 for more information.
