Through the CME programme, she manages and develops presentations by healthcare experts with the goal of educating attendees on advances in medicine, technology, research and changes to the healthcare environment. Dr Neilson-Williams has a diploma in leadership and management and certification in value-based healthcare through Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr Chikezie Dean Okereke joined Bermuda Hospitals Board in 2016 and was appointed Chief of Emergency and Hyperbaric Services in 2018. After graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, he completed postgraduate medical training in the UK, obtaining a Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He holds a Master of Medical Education from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining BHB, Dr Okereke worked as a substantive consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Trust, UK, for over 16 years, holding a number of senior medical leadership and training positions within the region and nationally. His main interests are in medical education and training, trauma and critical care. Dr Okereke is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the British Medical Association, and regularly examines for the College of Emergency Medicine.

In addition, he achieved a Master of Public Health in health management systems from Liverpool University in 2013. Dr Butterfield has worked in private practice and in hospitals in the US and Bermuda. He has served on the board of the Bermuda Health Council and as president of the former Bermuda Medical Association. Dr Butterfield is certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Medical Association in the US.

Zeinab Hussein MBCHB, MRCP, DGM

Dr Zeinab Hussein, MBCHB, MRCP, DGM, is BHB’s chief of geriatric, rehabilitative and palliative care. She graduated from Tanta University, Egypt, in 1995 then worked as a medical resident in Egypt and her home country of Sudan before moving to the UK in 1999. Dr Hussein completed her geriatric and internal medicine training at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, UK. She worked in the community hospitals, including multidisciplinary emergency day units, and trained in acute medicine/geriatrics at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr Hussein was a consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital for the five years prior to joining BHB in 2022.

She is also a consultant psychiatrist, managing clients with a range of mental health conditions and patients on the psychogeriatric unit at MWI. Dr Neilson-Williams is a graduate of The University of Glasgow and has a master's degree in transcultural mental health with distinction through Queen Mary's The University of London, UK. She was appointed BHB's director of continuing medical education in 2014. Through the CME programme, she manages and develops presentations by healthcare experts with the goal of educating attendees on advances in medicine, technology, research and changes to the healthcare environment. Dr Neilson-Williams has a diploma in leadership and management and certification in value-based healthcare through Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Sylvanus Nawab MD FAAP DABP

Dr Sylvanus Nawab is Bermuda Hospital Board's Chief of Paediatrics. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr Nawab spent his formative years in Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana Higher Institute of Medical Sciences. He worked as an Emergency Room and Paediatric House Officer in The Commonwealth of Dominica and St Lucia, before serving as BHB's Senior Paediatric House Officer. In 2007, he went on to complete additional paediatric training as a resident at the San Juan Municipal Hospital, Puerto Rico. Upon his return to Bermuda, Dr Nawab found work in the private sector with Edgewood Paediatrics and later re-joined BHB. He has regularly participated in charitable medical visits to developing countries like Guatemala, Haiti and Ghana, and is passionate about the welfare of young people. Dr Nawab is a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr Richard Hammond was appointed Bermuda Hospitals Board's Chief of Anaesthesia in October 2009. Bermuda born, Dr Hammond received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of London in 1993. He gained his specialist training through the South Thames West Anaesthetic Training Scheme at St George's Hospital in London, with advanced training in adult and paediatric Intensive Care medicine. He has been a Fellow of The Royal College of Anaesthetists since 1999 and received the CCST in Anaesthesia in 2001. Dr Hammond is on a number of BHB Committees, including the Privilege Review Committee, Medical Staff Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Critical Care Committee (Chair), Operating Room Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee.

Dr Akbar Lightbourne is currently Chief of Dentistry at Bermuda Hospitals Board. A graduate of Berkeley Institute and Bermuda College, Dr Lightbourne went on to get his undergraduate degree and complete his dental studies through Howard University in Washington, DC. In 2004, he finished his General Practice Residency at Howard University Hospital, before going on to intern in the Oral Surgery Department at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. In 2009, he completed a Residency in Oral and Maxillo-facial at Howard University, before teaming up with Dr Steven Cardwell to open Smiles Inc. Bermuda.

Chikezie Dean Okereke FRCS(Ed) FRCEM MEd

Dr Chikezie Dean Okereke joined Bermuda Hospitals Board in 2016 and was appointed Chief of Emergency and Hyperbaric Services in 2018. After graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, he completed postgraduate medical training in the UK, obtaining a Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He holds a Master of Medical Education from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining BHB, Dr Okereke worked as a substantive consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Trust, UK, for over 16 years, holding a number of senior medical leadership and training positions within the region and nationally. His main interests are in medical education and training, trauma and critical care. Dr Okereke is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the British Medical Association, and regularly examines for the College of Emergency Medicine.

Burton Butterfield BSc MD MPH

Dr Burton Butterfield is a general practitioner in private practice, and was appointed BHB's chief of family practice and general medicine in October 2022. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Howard University in 1974, and his postgraduate training at USC Medical Center and Martin Luther King Hospital in Los Angeles. In addition, he achieved a Master of Public Health in health management systems from Liverpool University in 2013. Dr Butterfield has worked in private practice and in hospitals in the US and Bermuda. He has served on the board of the Bermuda Health Council and as president of the former Bermuda Medical Association. Dr Butterfield is certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Medical Association in the US.

Zeinab Hussein MBCHB, MRCP, DGM

Dr Zeinab Hussein, MBCHB, MRCP, DGM, is BHB’s chief of geriatric, rehabilitative and palliative care. She graduated from Tanta University, Egypt, in 1995 then worked as a medical resident in Egypt and her home country of Sudan before moving to the UK in 1999. Dr Hussein completed her geriatric and internal medicine training at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, UK. She worked in the community hospitals, including multidisciplinary emergency day units, and trained in acute medicine/geriatrics at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr Hussein was a consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital for the five years prior to joining BHB in 2022.

Nevin Williams MD

Dr Nevin Williams was appointed BHB's acting chief of medicine in May 2023. He is also director of the hospitalist service at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Bermuda born, Dr Williams graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2004. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in California before completing a preliminary medicine internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, in 2011. Additionally, Dr Williams was a clinical resident instructor for Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed his residency training in internal medicine at Kettering Medical Center in Ohio in June 2014. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. Additionally, he is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, following completion of his residency training in 2014.

Dr TerryLynne Emery is a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the Bermuda Hospitals Board. With 22 years of obstetrical and gynaecological experience, Dr Emery is certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with a Specialist Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynecology (1995) and also as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She obtained her clinical training at McGill Teaching Hospitals in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, after completing her Medical Degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1989. She has an undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (1983), and a master’s in Management and Human Relations from Webster University (1985). Over the years, Dr Emery has effectively managed her solo private practice while occupying numerous roles, including her current appointment as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with BHB.

Sylvanus Nawab MD FAAP DABP

Dr Sylvanus Nawab is Bermuda Hospital Board's Chief of Paediatrics. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr Nawab spent his formative years in Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana Higher Institute of Medical Sciences. He worked as an Emergency Room and Paediatric House Officer in The Commonwealth of Dominica and St Lucia, before serving as BHB's Senior Paediatric House Officer. In 2007, he went on to complete additional paediatric training as a resident at the San Juan Municipal Hospital, Puerto Rico. Upon his return to Bermuda, Dr Nawab found work in the private sector with Edgewood Paediatrics and later re-joined BHB. He has regularly participated in charitable medical visits to developing countries like Guatemala, Haiti and Ghana, and is passionate about the welfare of young people. Dr Nawab is a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Eyitayo Fakunle MB ChB FMCPath MSc

Dr Eyitayo Fakunle is a consultant haematologist at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He was appointed acting chief of pathology in 2023 and made chief in 2024, overseeing all pathology services at BHB, including laboratory, microbiology and autopsy services. Dr Fakunle's role as consultant haematologist includes providing consultation on patients with haematology related illness, directing activities of BHB Transfusion Services and Bermuda Blood Donor Centre, performing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, and developing and executing medical policies and plans at the hospital. He received his FMCPath in haematology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, and later pursued a Master of Science in haematology from the University of Ibadan in 2008 and a Master of Science in haematopathology from the University of York, United Kingdom, in 2014. He is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the American Society of Haematology and Advancing Transfusion and Cellular Therapies Worldwide.

Anna Neilson-Williams MB ChB MRCPsych MSc

Dr Anna Neilson-Williams was appointed acting chief of staff in April 2024. She has been chief of psychiatry since 2022 and is a member of the Executive Team. Dr Neilson-Williams joined BHB in 2000 and served as acting chief of psychiatry from 2021. She is also a consultant psychiatrist, managing clients with a range of mental health conditions and patients on the psychogeriatric unit at MWI. Dr Neilson-Williams is a graduate of The University of Glasgow and has a master's degree in transcultural mental health with distinction through Queen Mary's The University of London, UK. She was appointed BHB's director of continuing medical education in 2014. Through the CME programme, she manages and develops presentations by healthcare experts with the goal of educating attendees on advances in medicine, technology, research and changes to the healthcare environment. Dr Neilson-Williams has a diploma in leadership and management and certification in value-based healthcare through Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Daniel Stovell MD

Dr Daniel Stovell was appointed Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in 2000. Dr Stovell obtained his medical degree at Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC, and completed his internship and residency at Howard University Hospital. He became American Board Certified in 1995. Dr Stovell is trained in interpreting X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, radioisotopes, mammography, bone density scans and MRIs. He also performs multiple types of image-guided procedures. In 1995, he made history by performing the first lung biopsy by a radiologist in Bermuda. In 2001, he was instrumental in the introduction of the MRI to KEMH, and two years later he performed the first stereotactic breast biopsy in Bermuda. Dr Stovell has been a member of the Radiological Society of North America since 1991 and Chairman of the Board of Diagnostic Imaging Technologists since 2000.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, he completed postgraduate medical training in the UK, obtaining a Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He holds a Master of Medical Education from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining BHB, Dr Okereke worked as a substantive consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Trust, UK, for over 16 years, holding a number of senior medical leadership and training positions within the region and nationally. His main interests are in medical education and training, trauma and critical care. She graduated from Tanta University, Egypt, in 1995 then worked as a medical resident in Egypt and her home country of Sudan before moving to the UK in 1999. Dr Hussein completed her geriatric and internal medicine training at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, UK. She worked in the community hospitals, including multidisciplinary emergency day units, and trained in acute medicine/geriatrics at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr Hussein was a consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital for the five years prior to joining BHB in 2022.

Dr Nevin Williams was appointed BHB's acting chief of medicine in May 2023. He is also director of the hospitalist service at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Bermuda born, Dr Williams graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2004. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in California before completing a preliminary medicine internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, in 2011. Additionally, Dr Williams was a clinical resident instructor for Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed his residency training in internal medicine at Kettering Medical Center in Ohio in June 2014. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. Additionally, he is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, following completion of his residency training in 2014.

Dr Sylvanus Nawab is Bermuda Hospital Board's Chief of Paediatrics. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr Nawab spent his formative years in Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana Higher Institute of Medical Sciences. He worked as an Emergency Room and Paediatric House Officer in The Commonwealth of Dominica and St Lucia, before serving as BHB's Senior Paediatric House Officer. In 2007, he went on to complete additional paediatric training as a resident at the San Juan Municipal Hospital, Puerto Rico. Upon his return to Bermuda, Dr Nawab found work in the private sector with Edgewood Paediatrics and later re-joined BHB. He has regularly participated in charitable medical visits to developing countries like Guatemala, Haiti and Ghana, and is passionate about the welfare of young people. Dr Nawab is a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr Eyitayo Fakunle is a consultant haematologist at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He was appointed acting chief of pathology in 2023 and made chief in 2024, overseeing all pathology services at BHB, including laboratory, microbiology and autopsy services. Dr Fakunle's role as consultant haematologist includes providing consultation on patients with haematology related illness, directing activities of BHB Transfusion Services and Bermuda Blood Donor Centre, performing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, and developing and executing medical policies and plans at the hospital. He received his FMCPath in haematology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, and later pursued a Master of Science in haematology from the University of Ibadan in 2008 and a Master of Science in haematopathology from the University of York, United Kingdom, in 2014. He is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the American Society of Haematology and Advancing Transfusion and Cellular Therapies Worldwide.

Daniel Stovell MD

Dr Daniel Stovell was appointed Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in 2000. Dr Stovell obtained his medical degree at Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC, and completed his internship and residency at Howard University Hospital. He became American Board Certified in 1995. Dr Stovell is trained in interpreting X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, radioisotopes, mammography, bone density scans and MRIs. He also performs multiple types of image-guided procedures. In 1995, he made history by performing the first lung biopsy by a radiologist in Bermuda. In 2001, he was instrumental in the introduction of the MRI to KEMH, and two years later he performed the first stereotactic breast biopsy in Bermuda. Dr Stovell has been a member of the Radiological Society of North America since 1991 and Chairman of the Board of Diagnostic Imaging Technologists since 2000.

Dr Alicia Stovell-Washington is a dedicated healthcare provider with a passion for eye surgery. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She earned her Bachelor in Science and Medical Doctor’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook University, New York. While there, she led multiple committees and organizations including the SBU Medical School’s admission committee and chapter founder of SBU’s Student National Medical Association. After earning her University Hospital Internal Medicine Internship Certificate in Stony Brook, she completed her Ophthalmology training at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, and became a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr Sam Mir is Bermuda Hospitals Board's Director of Cardiology. Appointed in November 2013, Dr Mir is responsible for inpatient and outpatient cardiology services at the hospital. Dr Richard Hammond was appointed Bermuda Hospitals Board's Chief of Anaesthesia in October 2009. Bermuda born, Dr Hammond received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of London in 1993. He gained his specialist training through the South Thames West Anaesthetic Training Scheme at St George's Hospital in London, with advanced training in adult and paediatric Intensive Care medicine. He has been a Fellow of The Royal College of Anaesthetists since 1999 and received the CCST in Anaesthesia in 2001. Dr Hammond is on a number of BHB Committees, including the Privilege Review Committee, Medical Staff Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Critical Care Committee (Chair), Operating Room Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee.

Dr Akbar Lightbourne is currently Chief of Dentistry at Bermuda Hospitals Board. A graduate of Berkeley Institute and Bermuda College, Dr Lightbourne went on to get his undergraduate degree and complete his dental studies through Howard University in Washington, DC. In 2004, he finished his General Practice Residency at Howard University Hospital, before going on to intern in the Oral Surgery Department at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr Chikezie Dean Okereke joined Bermuda Hospitals Board in 2016 and was appointed Chief of Emergency and Hyperbaric Services in 2018. After graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, he completed postgraduate medical training in the UK, obtaining a Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He holds a Master of Medical Education from the University of Leeds. Prior to joining BHB, Dr Okereke worked as a substantive consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Trust, UK, for over 16 years, holding a number of senior medical leadership and training positions within the region and nationally. His main interests are in medical education and training, trauma and critical care. Dr Okereke is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the British Medical Association, and regularly examines for the College of Emergency Medicine.

Burton Butterfield BSc MD MPH

Dr Burton Butterfield is a general practitioner in private practice, and was appointed BHB's chief of family practice and general medicine in October 2022. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Howard University in 1974, and his postgraduate training at USC Medical Center and Martin Luther King Hospital in Los Angeles. In addition, he achieved a Master of Public Health in health management systems from Liverpool University in 2013. Dr Butterfield has worked in private practice and in hospitals in the US and Bermuda. He has served on the board of the Bermuda Health Council and as president of the former Bermuda Medical Association. Dr Butterfield is certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Medical Association in the US.

Dr Zeinab Hussein, MBCHB, MRCP, DGM, is BHB’s chief of geriatric, rehabilitative and palliative care. She graduated from Tanta University, Egypt, in 1995 then worked as a medical resident in Egypt and her home country of Sudan before moving to the UK in 1999. Dr Hussein completed her geriatric and internal medicine training at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, UK. She worked in the community hospitals, including multidisciplinary emergency day units, and trained in acute medicine/geriatrics at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr Hussein was a consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital for the five years prior to joining BHB in 2022.

Nevin Williams MD

Dr Nevin Williams was appointed BHB's acting chief of medicine in May 2023. He is also director of the hospitalist service at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Bermuda born, Dr Williams graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2004. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in California before completing a preliminary medicine internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, in 2011. Additionally, Dr Williams was a clinical resident instructor for Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed his residency training in internal medicine at Kettering Medical Center in Ohio in June 2014. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. Additionally, he is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, following completion of his residency training in 2014.

Dr TerryLynne Emery is a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the Bermuda Hospitals Board. With 22 years of obstetrical and gynaecological experience, Dr Emery is certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with a Specialist Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynecology (1995) and also as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She obtained her clinical training at McGill Teaching Hospitals in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, after completing her Medical Degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1989. She has an undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (1983), and a master’s in Management and Human Relations from Webster University (1985). Over the years, Dr Emery has effectively managed her solo private practice while occupying numerous roles, including her current appointment as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with BHB.

Sylvanus Nawab MD FAAP DABP

Dr Sylvanus Nawab is Bermuda Hospital Board's Chief of Paediatrics. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr Nawab spent his formative years in Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana Higher Institute of Medical Sciences. He worked as an Emergency Room and Paediatric House Officer in The Commonwealth of Dominica and St Lucia, before serving as BHB's Senior Paediatric House Officer. In 2007, he went on to complete additional paediatric training as a resident at the San Juan Municipal Hospital, Puerto Rico. Upon his return to Bermuda, Dr Nawab found work in the private sector with Edgewood Paediatrics and later re-joined BHB. He has regularly participated in charitable medical visits to developing countries like Guatemala, Haiti and Ghana, and is passionate about the welfare of young people. Dr Nawab is a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr Eyitayo Fakunle is a consultant haematologist at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He was appointed acting chief of pathology in 2023 and made chief in 2024, overseeing all pathology services at BHB, including laboratory, microbiology and autopsy services. Dr Fakunle's role as consultant haematologist includes providing consultation on patients with haematology related illness, directing activities of BHB Transfusion Services and Bermuda Blood Donor Centre, performing bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, and developing and executing medical policies and plans at the hospital. He received his FMCPath in haematology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, and later pursued a Master of Science in haematology from the University of Ibadan in 2008 and a Master of Science in haematopathology from the University of York, United Kingdom, in 2014. He is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the American Society of Haematology and Advancing Transfusion and Cellular Therapies Worldwide.

Daniel Stovell MD

Dr Daniel Stovell was appointed Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in 2000. Dr Stovell obtained his medical degree at Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC, and completed his internship and residency at Howard University Hospital. He became American Board Certified in 1995. Dr Stovell is trained in interpreting X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, radioisotopes, mammography, bone density scans and MRIs. He also performs multiple types of image-guided procedures. In 1995, he made history by performing the first lung biopsy by a radiologist in Bermuda. In 2001, he was instrumental in the introduction of the MRI to KEMH, and two years later he performed the first stereotactic breast biopsy in Bermuda. Dr Stovell has been a member of the Radiological Society of North America since 1991 and Chairman of the Board of Diagnostic Imaging Technologists since 2000.

Alicia Stovell-Washington MD MBA

Dr Alicia Stovell-Washington is a dedicated healthcare provider with a passion for eye surgery. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She earned her Bachelor in Science and Medical Doctor’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook University, New York. While there, she led multiple committees and organizations including the SBU Medical School’s admission committee and chapter founder of SBU’s Student National Medical Association. After earning her University Hospital Internal Medicine Internship Certificate in Stony Brook, she completed her Ophthalmology training at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, and became a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She came to Bermuda in 2003, where she helped plan strategies to improve healthcare for the island, as a board member of the Bermuda Health Council, President of the Active Staff, and the executive committee Bermuda National Health Plan. Sam Mir MD FACC

Dr Sam Mir is Bermuda Hospitals Board's Director of Cardiology. Appointed in November 2013, Dr Mir is responsible for inpatient and outpatient cardiology services at the hospital. Since March 2011, he has worked as BHB's Attending Cardiologist, helping to develop a clinical cardiology and cardiovascular imaging programme, as well as creating a high-quality device implantation/management programme for pacemakers. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and went on to complete an internship and residency in Internal Medicine from Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital. He completed a Cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is US Board certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr William Peckett is a leading Orthopaedic Surgeon in his native Bermuda. His training and interests encompass a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions, including bone and joint trauma, shoulder replacement and reconstruction, sports injuries, and arthroscopy of the wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle. He received his Medical School training at University College Hospital and Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London. After his pre-clinical years he studied physiology, where he attained a First Class Honours degree and was awarded the prestigious Leonard Bayliss Prize. He was presented the Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship in 1987 and the Sir John Cox Scholarship 1988 to 1991. In addition to training in the UK and Australia, Dr Peckett became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of various professional bodies. He is currently Director of Orthopaedics for the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

Dr Anna Neilson-Williams was appointed acting chief of staff in April 2024. She has been chief of psychiatry since 2022 and is a member of the Executive Team. Dr Neilson-Williams joined BHB in 2000 and served as acting chief of psychiatry from 2021. She is also a consultant psychiatrist, managing clients with a range of mental health conditions and patients on the psychogeriatric unit at MWI. Dr Neilson-Williams is a graduate of The University of Glasgow and has a master's degree in transcultural mental health with distinction through Queen Mary's The University of London, UK. She was appointed BHB's director of continuing medical education in 2014. Through the CME programme, she manages and develops presentations by healthcare experts with the goal of educating attendees on advances in medicine, technology, research and changes to the healthcare environment. Dr Neilson-Williams has a diploma in leadership and management and certification in value-based healthcare through Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Daniel Stovell MD

Dr Daniel Stovell was appointed Chief of Diagnostic Imaging at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in 2000. Dr Stovell obtained his medical degree at Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC, and completed his internship and residency at Howard University Hospital. He became American Board Certified in 1995. Dr Stovell is trained in interpreting X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, radioisotopes, mammography, bone density scans and MRIs. He also performs multiple types of image-guided procedures. In 1995, he made history by performing the first lung biopsy by a radiologist in Bermuda. In 2001, he was instrumental in the introduction of the MRI to KEMH, and two years later he performed the first stereotactic breast biopsy in Bermuda. Dr Stovell has been a member of the Radiological Society of North America since 1991 and Chairman of the Board of Diagnostic Imaging Technologists since 2000.

Alicia Stovell-Washington MD MBA

Dr Alicia Stovell-Washington is a dedicated healthcare provider with a passion for eye surgery. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She earned her Bachelor in Science and Medical Doctor’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook University, New York. While there, she led multiple committees and organizations including the SBU Medical School’s admission committee and chapter founder of SBU’s Student National Medical Association. After earning her University Hospital Internal Medicine Internship Certificate in Stony Brook, she completed her Ophthalmology training at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, and became a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She came to Bermuda in 2003, where she helped plan strategies to improve healthcare for the island, as a board member of the Bermuda Health Council, President of the Active Staff, and the executive committee Bermuda National Health Plan. From 2014-2016, Dr Stovell-Washington served on the Bermuda Hospitals Board, as Chair of Clinical Governance Committee and a member of the Executive Committee.

Sam Mir MD FACC
Director of Cardiology

Dr Sam Mir is Bermuda Hospitals Board's Director of Cardiology. Appointed in November 2013, Dr Mir is responsible for inpatient and outpatient cardiology services at the hospital. Since March 2011, he has worked as BHB's Attending Cardiologist, helping to develop a clinical cardiology and cardiovascular imaging programme, as well as creating a high-quality device implantation/management programme for pacemakers. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and went on to complete an internship and residency in Internal Medicine from Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital. He completed a Cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is US Board certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

William Peckett MBBS(Hons) FRCS

Dr William Peckett is a leading Orthopaedic Surgeon in his native Bermuda. His training and interests encompass a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions, including bone and joint trauma, shoulder replacement and reconstruction, sports injuries, and arthroscopy of the wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle. He received his Medical School training at University College Hospital and Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London. After his pre-clinical years he studied physiology, where he attained a First Class Honours degree and was awarded the prestigious Leonard Bayliss Prize. He was presented the Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship in 1987 and the Sir John Cox Scholarship 1988 to 1991. In addition to training in the UK and Australia, Dr Peckett became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of various professional bodies. He is currently Director of Orthopaedics for the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

Elwood Fox DO

Dr Elwood Fox, DO, is Bermuda Hospital Board’s Director of Physiatry and Rehabilitative Services. A Board Certified Physiatrist, Dr Fox is also a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). Dr Fox graduated from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, Maine, in 1994. The Bermudian then completed a traditional one-year AOA-Rotating Internship at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, followed by his first Residency in Internal Medicine (1995-98). Under the University of Massachusetts Medical School he served his final year as Academic Chief Medical Resident. A second Residency in PM&R followed at JFK/Johnson Rehab Institute through Robert Wood Johnson/Rutgers Medical School from 1998-2001. Dr Fox served as Chief Resident his final year, where he won Resident Teacher of the Year Award. He has been practicing in Maine since 2001 and has both Maine and Massachusetts active medical licences. Registered in Bermuda since 2004, he brings that experience, wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for treating persons with disabling conditions to BHB.
