Gosling Unit is BHB’s dedicated paediatric unit, providing care for children from birth until age 18. At times, the unit also cares for adult patients.
A medical officer is on duty from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and a paediatric physician is on call 24/7. All registered nurses on the unit have specialised training in paediatrics. Infants and children requiring intensive care are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Arrangements may be made for a parent to stay overnight with their child.
In an effort to ensure high-quality care continues after patients have been discharged, unit staff follow up post discharge and arrange outpatient services where necessary.
