BHB Partners with Drexel University to Provide Employees with Online Education Opportunities

Bermuda Hospitals Board is pleased to announce it will collaborate with Drexel University, an accredited, web-based institution of higher learning. BHB staff will have an opportunity to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in a range of fields through on-line programmes. Representatives from Drexel will be in Bermuda on February 7th and 8th to conduct presentations and enroll interested employees.

Drexel University is among the top 50 private, non-profit, national doctoral/research universities in the United States. Ranked by US News & World Report as one of America´s Best Colleges for 2006, Drexel University opened the world´s first school of nursing and is the largest private medical college in the USA. More than 90% of its faculty members have PhDs; many are distinguished authorities in their fields, widely honored in teaching and research.

Highly interactive and designed for working adults, these online programs follow the same high academic standards and lead to the same quality degrees as on-campus curriculum, without commuting or career interruptions. Programmes include Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing, Certificates in Nursing and Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, Computing Technology, Corporate Communications, Management and Finance.

Kathy-Ann Lewis, Director of Clinical Programmes, said, “We are thrilled to offer our staff this opportunity to complete or continue their education while they work. We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to study abroad. With this flexible programme, individuals can attend a fully accredited university, obtain a degree and never leave home.”

BHB staff and their spouses will receive 10-25% off regular tuition rates and may be eligible for tuition assistance through BHB and deferred payment plans through Drexel University.

R. Scott Pearman, Director of Human Resources, said, “Partnering with Drexel University in conjunction with our new tuition reimbursement program will enable BHB to achieve its strategic objective of developing a highly skilled workforce. The partnership will contribute to the development of Bermudian talent and will provide added benefit in attracting and retaining our valuable guest worker staff, who are in high demand worldwide.”
