Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB)today announces the appointment of Mr. Dion Tucker as Chief Information Officer, who will join BHB on 1 October 2010. Mr. Tucker, a Bermudian, will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Hill, and will be responsible for Information Technology and Telecommunications across BHB.

Mr. Hill comments: “We are extremely pleased to be welcoming Mr. Tucker to BHB in October. Mr. Tucker has extensive experience within the technology industry and has worked at RenRe during a time of impressive growth. This experience of working within a dynamic and evolving industry will be vital. Mr. Tucker is joining us at an exciting time, with the construction of a new acute care facility expected to start at the turn of the year. Healthcare is always dynamic as technological advances are driven by new standards of patient care. Mr. Tucker’s experience of managing IT services to accommodate changing business needs and developing IT professionals will therefore be vital at BHB.”

Alongside his extensive experience within IT, Mr. Tucker was also instrumental in the development of a government-industry partnership to establish and run the “Technology Leadership Forum (TLF)” that he co-chairs. This non-profit entity’s mission is to provide promising college-level students in technology with tutoring and mentoring by 10 top IT leaders at 10 leading companies. TLF was honoured with a “Tech Award” and Mr. Tucker with the “Most Inspiring Mentor Award” during Tech Week 2010 in Bermuda.

Mr. Herman Tucker, Chairman, comments: “As a Board we are committed to ensuring there is long term, strong and effective leadership at BHB to take our hospitals through this exciting phase of development and beyond. This is why, as a Board, we have established a strategy to identify and develop Bermudians, who have the skills and ability to take on and succeed in leadership roles. While our succession planning programme identifies talent from within our staff, our extensive recruitment process seeks talented Bermudians from elsewhere. It gives us great pleasure to appoint Mr. Tucker to this vital position and we look forward to welcoming him to the senior management team.”
