MindFrame PhotoVoice Exhibition Winners Announced

Bermuda Hospitals Board today announces the winners of the People’s Choice categories from the MindFrame PhotoVoice Exhibition that ran from 24 September to 13 October 2010 at the Bermuda Society of Arts.

This was the fourth exhibition of MWI service users’ art and the second time the PhotoVoice Programme has been included. For the first time this year there was a ‘Visions of Recovery’ postcard competition, to celebrate the launch of the Mental Health Plan, which is based on a Recovery Model philosophy of care. There was also a short film at the exhibition, in which service users spoke about the importance of art to their recovery, and a performance of music and poetry in partnership with Chewsticks at the launch event.

The winners are as follows:

Postcard Competition Winner:
• Erase Yesterday’s Stigma, Deniece Grieves

Favourite Photograph:
• Flowers in the Sunshine, Gail Smith

Favourite Piece of Art: (Tie between 2 participants):
• Natures Creation (3 votes) and the Tea Bag Hat (3 votes), Betty Ann Pierre
• Untitled I (3 votes), Mike Gibbons

Pictured are the winners with the team who work with services users, including the MWI Occupational and Physio Therapists who run the programme and Royal Gazette photographer Tamell Simons. Missing from the picture are art therapist Karen Dyer and local artist Ami Zanders.
