Dr Victor F Scott Joins BHB as Interim Chief of Staff

Bermuda Hospitals Board announces the appointment of Dr Victor F Scott, MD, MACP, AGAF, as Interim Chief of Staff for period up to three months.

As Interim Chief of Staff, Dr Scott will report to BHB CEO, Mrs Venetta Symonds, and will lead the medical chiefs at the hospital with a focus on clinical quality, physician engagement and ensuring deadlines for operational readiness project remain on target for the 2014 transition to the new facility.

Dr Scott is the retired Senior Vice President for the Health Sciences at Howard University. Born in Bermuda, Dr Scott is a graduate of the Howard University College of Medicine, from where he retired in 2008 at the rank of Professor of Medicine. Dr Scott was the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology for 29 years, and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Medicine for twelve of those years before becoming Interim Chairman in 2000. In 2005 he was appointed Senior Vice President for the Health Sciences, after two years serving in the role in an interim capacity. A member of a number of physician organizations, Dr Scott is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Gastroenterological Association. In 2010 he was elected to Mastership in the American College of Physicians and has served as President and Councilor of the Association of Academic Minority Physicians. Dr Scott has been named to Washington Magazine’s list of top area gastroenterologists three times. Although retired from Howard University, Dr Scott still volunteers assistance to the Gastroenterology Division and assists the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Bermuda with the weekly CME programme.

To have a Bermudian physician of Dr Scott’s calibre and experience in this interim role will provide high quality clinical leadership for us. Although three months may not sound long, there are many clinical quality and operational readiness projects that cannot be delayed.
