New Chief of Nursing, Quality & Risk Appointed

Bermuda Hospitals Board today announces the appointment of Mrs Judy Richardson to the position of Chief of Nursing, Quality & Risk.

The Chief of Nursing, Quality & Risk position was created last year in order to strengthen the voice of nursing at the most senior levels of BHB. In this role, Mrs Richardson is responsible for championing and providing development and support of BHB´s nursing staff. Her goal is to ensure a consistently high quality, compassionate standard of care at BHB in all settings where nursing care is delivered. Mrs Richardson is also responsible for all quality, risk management, infection control, regulatory compliance safety initiatives and nursing clinical education.

Mrs Richardson has worked at Bermuda Hospitals Board for about 25 years, starting as a front line nurse. After almost 20 years’ experience in nursing, Mrs Richardson was promoted to a Clinical Coordinator on Memorial Ward (now Gordon Ward) in 1998 and then to the position of Quality Improvement Coordinator in 1999. In 2001 she took on the role of Chief Nursing Administrator, focusing on the development of standards of nursing practice at BHB and two years later was promoted to the senior management position of Director of Quality & Risk Management. Mrs Richardson held this role for five years, until she was appointed to the role of Acting Chief of Nursing, Quality & Risk when the new Nursing, Quality & Risk Office was established at the end of last year. Mrs Richardson took the role to ensure the work of this important office could begin, while a competitive recruitment process for the position was initiated.

CEO, Mr David Hill comments: “I am very pleased to appoint Mrs Richardson to this vitally important position at BHB. A strong nursing staff is critical to achieve a consistently high quality service for patients and a strong leadership voice for nursing is essential in order to nurture and develop the profession at BHB. Our ultimate goal is to continuously improve both the clinical quality and patient experience in all BHB locations. Mrs Richardson has extensive experience in both nursing and quality, and is the right person to help BHB achieve its goal to be the first choice of health for wellness.”
