New Vice President – Quality & Risk Management Appointed

Bermuda Hospitals Board today announces the appointment of Mr Preston Swan as Vice President (VP) – Quality & Risk Management.
In this role, Mr Swan will be responsible for Patient Safety, Clinical Risk Management, Accreditation Compliance, Resource Utilization and Clinical Auditing throughout all BHB operations, and will report to Mrs Judy Richardson, the Chief of Nursing, Quality & Risk.

Mr Swan has worked for Bermuda Hospitals Board since 1989, and has experience in mental health, learning disability and substance abuse at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute. After initially joining as a Staff Nurse, Mr Swan worked on various wards and was promoted to the position of Unit-Coordinator in 1993. In 1996, Preston was promoted again to the position of Clinical Coordinator, Community Homes Programme, and to the post of Clinical Director, Turning Point Substance Abuse Programme in 2004. He held this position until late 2008, when he became Acting VP – Quality & Risk Management.

Mr Swan trained as a registered mental nurse at the Sussex Downs School of Nursing in England and, in 1992, undertook further training at the Sheffield School of Nursing in England, gaining three ENBs in Developments in Mental Handicap Nursing, Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Practice and Care in the Community. In 2008 he achieved a Masters in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.
