Bermuda Hospitals Board Invites Community to Free Presentation on Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments for Pain and Fatigue

Bermuda Hospitals Board will present a free community lecture on Wednesday 29 September at 6:00pm at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute. “Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments for Pain and Fatigue” will feature guest speaker and international specialist, Dr. Michael Clark, who will discuss the latest research and treatment options in the field of fibromyalgia and chronic pain. Members of the public are invited to learn about health concerns that affect hundreds of people in our community. They will also have an opportunity to ask the doctor questions.

Dr. Clark is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is considered an expert in the fields of psychiatry and chronic pain and its treatment and management.

In addition to the public presentation, Dr. Clark will speak to healthcare professionals at a separate lecture on Wednesday about the physician’s role in drug addiction, as part of BHB’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme. He will also attend hospital grand rounds on Thursday morning 30 September to discuss chronic fatigue with physicians.

CME lectures are designed to keep pace with advances in medicine, technology, research and changes in the healthcare environment. They offer learning opportunities to physicians, nurses and allied health professionals in the hospital and in the community.

Dr. Annie Pinto, Medical Director of the CME Programme said: “We are delighted to have brought Dr. Clark to Bermuda to share his expertise and skills in the field of fibromyalgia and chronic pain. Hospital staff and other medical professionals have greatly benefited from attending our CME presentations. Dr. Clark’s lecture is both timely and relevant, as we recognize the growing number of people in Bermuda who are being diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.”

People who suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic pain and want to know more about the causes and treatments are urged to take advantage of Wednesday night’s free public presentation. “This is a great opportunity to hear a renowned, international expert talk about issues affecting our community,” adds Dr. Pinto. “If you or someone you know suffers from pain and fatigue, we invite you to attend this informative evening.”
