BHB Senior Soca Event Promises to Shake Things Up!

The Activities Department for Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Continuing Care Unit (CCU) today encouraged seniors to attend its Senior Soca event on Thursday 6 August at Devonshire Recreational Club. Seniors from all over the island are invited to a free evening of festive music, dancing and socialising.

The Senior Soca event will take place between 6:00pm to 9:00pm and is free of charge to all seniors. Light refreshments will be served. Please contact Capri Smith at 239-1467 for further information.

“Events like this give seniors a chance to get out and do something exciting,” said Capri Smith, CCU’s Activities Director. “They enjoy visiting with others and dancing provides a great form of exercise.”

Staff on CCU used to arrange for residents to attend the Byron Lee concerts each summer. However, with the passing of Mr. Lee last year, staff decided to find an alternative, so seniors wouldn’t miss out.

“We recognise how important it is for seniors to socialise, especially those who live in the hospital,” Capri explains. “We plan events and activities throughout the year so seniors won’t feel isolated or lonely. Some seniors are separated from their friends and relatives because they are placed in different nursing facilities. These events provide an opportunity for seniors to socialise with people they love and miss.”
